Whale Wars, Is it For the Best?

The fight to keep our planet’s whales alive continues more powerful than ever. Thanks, or no thanks to Discovery’s reality TV show, Whale Wars. I think we have all heard of Paul Watson and his team by now. You know, the big guy who throws stink bombs (Butyric Acid) and attempts to ram Japanese whaling ships. We all agree that slaughtering our fellow whales is wrong, but can the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society be just as at fault? Let’s analyze the situation from both perspectives.

There is nationwide admiration for Paul’s passion and dedication for the whale’s lives. Yes! He has raised awareness worldwide with his graphic images and his die-hard personality. It sure got Kelly Slater going! It may all seem well and good, but at the same time, this is part of the problem.

Mr. Watson may be passionate, but he and his team are, nonetheless, violent. Say if you were a whale: would you want mammals, that are of the same species, destroying each other over you? I wouldn’t. Supporting eco-terrorism is just as deadly as those harpoons. What we need to do, is phase out the demand for these fellow creatures.

NASA, for example: guess what the spacecrafts, the Hubble space telescope uses to keep from freezing? Yes, whale oil is perfect to withstand extreme temperatures. I’m not calling out the space programs. I’m only elaborating on how in demand these creatures are.

The point is, that it’s not right to bring ourselves down to the stone age, and beat these guys up like barbarians. This is the 21st century people! We should be improving our quality of life, not diminishing it. We know better. Although Paul claims that the whaling in Antarctica has been cut in half, It’s like what Mahatma Gandhi said: “I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.” If we work together, us human beings can make a difference as a whole. So you tell me: shall the fight go on to the 3rd season?

Recycle Scam Revealed

Are you really relieving stress from the planet when you recycle your old electronic? Maybe yes, and maybe no. It turns out that some recycling companies will claim to be legit, and care about our environment, but are really illegally shipping the toxic waste to wastelands in china through the black market. Here is an investigation reported by CNBC News (click on link) http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4586903n.

Now I hope this doesn't affect your ideas about recycling paper, plastic, etc. I still highly recommend doing so in the mean time because, first, when you take out the trash, that waste wouldn't make as much of a difference if it were put into a landfill here. Second, it is a matter of what's really getting recycled, from what's not. Now especially in these times, we should be conserving as much as possible. Which means LESS CONSUMERISM. If you need to get rid of your old electronic, you have options! Maybe someone can put it to good use. Or if it is totalled, and need to be discharged somehow, I would recommend doing some research before, so you can save yourself from the "Greenwashing" scam. More revelations will be posted soon, including some safe recycling companies.
